Everything has a beginning and an end. Whatever the reason may be, you’ve decided that your subscription with ExpressVPN has run its course and you’d like to cancel. Perhaps your internet needs have changed, or you’re looking for a provider with a different kind of package. At What’s the Best, we stand by Express being one of the best VPNs available, but at the very least if you’re cancelling your subscription, we’d strongly advise against having no VPN at all.
Cancelling a VPN subscription is as easy as signing up for one, at least it is in the case of ExpressVPN. Most companies regardless of the service make the process of cancelling an absolute slog, obviously intentionally. Our experts are well experienced with the inner workings of ExpressVPN, and we’re here to guide you through cancelling the VPN subscription.
The method of cancelling your ExpressVPN will vary depending on how you pay for your subscription in the first place. The main differences will be if you paid for your subscription through the ExpressVPN website on a desktop device, through an app store on a mobile app, or with Bitcoin.
Cancelling through the website
If you got your hands on an ExpressVPN subscription through the website, this is exactly where you’ll be able to cancel your subscription. If you’re unsure and you have the VPN on a desktop, this’ll likely be how you subscribed initially.
• Head to expressvpn.com
• Sign in to your account
• Select My Subscription
• Go to Edit Settings
• Turn off automatic renewal
After these steps, your ExpressVPN subscription will expire at the end of the current payment period. Once that time is up, the subscription will cease.
It is possible to skip this process though, if you head to your account settings on the same page. Here, you’ll be able to totally delete your account, thus ending the subscription entirely.
Cancelling through app store
If you’ve been using ExpressVPN to protect a mobile device, then the cancellation process is a tad different, but rest assured it’s no more complex.
• Open the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android)
• Open your list of subscriptions
• For Android - tap Payment and Subscriptions
• For iOS - tap Subscriptions
• Select ExpressVPN and follow the instructions to cancel
Just like the previous method, you’re subscription will still be in place until it’s end date. Otherwise, you can still delete your account entirely through the ExpressVPN app.
Cancelling a subscription paid with Bitcoin
ExpressVPN subscriptions made through Bitcoin do not automatically renew, this means you don’t need to cancel your subscription. Again, if you want to cut your subscription prematurely you can always delete your account on the ExpressVPN app through your device.
