Members of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can now stream games to their Apple iOS devices and web browsers, as the service has now exited its Beta test.

Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate now have full access to Xbox Game Streaming on Apple iOS devices and Chrome, Safari and Edge internet browsers. The cloud-based service was previously known as Project xCloud.

Microsoft is in the midst of a revolution, with the Xbox Game Pass service promising to do for video games what Netflix has done to television and film. Over recent years, the subscription service has been powering up, receiving notable boosts from Microsoft’s brazen purchases of many renowned gaming studios, such as Zenimax Media, the owner of Bethesda.

The service has also drawn attention and praise for its game streaming feature available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. It allows members to stream over 250 video games from the cloud, similar to Google Stadia and Nvidia GeForce Now.

In Beta, this Game Pass feature had limited device compatibility, but following an upgrade to Microsoft’s servers, the service has been opened up to iOS and internet browsers and delivers quality akin to the Xbox Series X.

Streaming bandwidth caps limit the performance to 1080p/60fps, so the Series X experience is most felt through the rapid loading time. Nevertheless, such seamless access to high-quality HD gaming on top of all else offered in the Game Pass Ultimate package is sure to have appeal.

Gamers wanting to use a smartphone can link an Xbox controller (and take advantage of this official 8BitDo mount) or opt for a smartphone controller such as the Razer Kishi (for Android, for iPhone) or GameSir X2 (Android only).
