It's safe to say that the State of Play was an enjoyable event, with surprise announcements, first-looks, and sadly, game delays. The main focus, of course, was the nine-minute showcase of Deathloop, which was announced earlier in July.
Firstly, we got to see the trailer for Moss: Book II, which will be available to play in VR. According to the Playstation blog, "Meeting up with Quill and her uncle again in the world of Moss isn’t from an outside vantage point—players are physically inside of the world, and they share a real presence with those characters. It’s that immersion that makes the journey feel all the more real and the stakes even higher."
We also learned of the multiplayer shooter game, Arcadegeddon, which you can get early access to from today.
It follows Gilly, the owner of a local arcade, who's "trying to save his business from a faceless mega-corporation". The ever-evolving multiplayer shooter allows you to play solo or with up to three friends to explore multiple biomes, play mini-games, find hidden chests, and defeat numerous enemy types and boss levels.
Other first-looks included F.I.S.T: Forged in Shadow Torch, which centres around a half-rabbit, half-robot soldier living in isolation since the previous resistance war. It will be released on 7 September.
We also got the official news that the new Hunter's Arena will be available for PlayStation Plus members from 3 August.
The game, "takes you to a beautifully crafted ancient East Asian world where you play as a Hunter who must fight deadly demons as well as each other to survive in the one-of-a-kind melee battle royale".
Up next, we had an update on Sifu, the upcoming kung fu action game from the creators of Absolver. Sadly, the game is delayed until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It does, however, look impressive.
Jett: The Far Shore was revealed last year, but we finally got a glimpse at the gameplay. You play as Mei, "an interstellar explorer who is part of a team hoping they’ve found a home for their civilization". Jett will be heading to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 later in 2021.
The iconic game developer SEGA also made quite a statement at the event, revealing a new slasher game, based on Demon Slayer. The game, titled Demon Slayer: Kimestu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles, will be available on PS4 and PS5 on 5 October.
Players will find themselves "immersed in the world of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba as depicted in the manga and anime as they explore the locations and battle demons alongside familiar allies".
We also learned more about__ Lost Judgment__, the upcoming action noir thriller from SEGA. A unique title, it follows private detective Takayuki Yagami who's investigating a gruesome tragedy. You must travel across several districts of Japan and into a local high school (yes, really) to get to the bottom of the mystery.
Next up, we discovered more about the features of Death Stranding: Director's Cut, which will include new content, enhanced gameplay features, more weapons, equipment and vehicles, a variety of new modes, missions and areas to explore, plus expanded storylines, and enhancements to the UI. Online Friend Play and Leaderboards will also be introduced.
And last but not least, the main event - Deathloop. The extended gameplay first look revealed the ability to rewind time to cheat death, lock in gear to use in future loops, and upgrade abilities earned by killing bosses more than once.
The multiplayer assassination game launches on console exclusively on PS5, plus PC on 14 September 2021. You can preorderDeathloop now.
