The X95J is an award-winning series of TVs from Sony. Featuring powerful AI and Full-Array LED all tucked into a striking minimalist frame, the series already has75-inch and 85-inch models available.
Those with smaller living rooms (and budgets) will be happy to hear that Sony is adding a new size to the range. The Sony XR X95J 65-inch model is "available in August" from selected retailers. There’s no news on the pricing yet, but given the price tag on other X95J models and similar 65-inch Sony models, bank accounts are likely to be about £2,000 lighter after a purchase.
One of the main draws of the X95J range is its Cognitive Processor XR. This processor uses cognitive intelligence to divide the screen into zones and detect the focal point. This intelligence also analyses the position of the sound and upscales audio to 3D audio to deliver realism and a directional quality to audio. In short, it replicates the way that humans see and hear. Ambient Optimisation is also onboard, optimising audio and visual performance based on the TV’s surroundings and positioning. Smart stuff.
The series also has welcome considerations for distanced and angled viewing. The X95J TVs have X-Wide Angle tech to maintain real-world colours at an angle and X-Anti Reflection to aid distance viewing. Both inclusions are important for larger TVs which do have the unfortunate tendency to act as big mirrors if incorrectly orientated.
There’s more to the sound than just the clever AI stuff happening with the Cognitive Processor XR, too. Acoustic Multi-Audio is a feature doing clever work to provide cinematic audio in addition to the support Dolby Atmos.
There’s plenty for streaming fans to love, too, with the X95J being calibrated for 4K Netflix streaming, with IMAX remastered picture and immersive DTS audio. The TV also comes with BRAVIA CORE, a service that allows users access to Sony Picture Entertainment premium and classic titles. Those with any X95J model have access to this service, which provides five movies and 12 months of unlimited streaming. Further to this, the stream is supported by Pure Stream, a lossless 4K streaming feature, and IMAX Enhanced, which couples the 4K experience with smart digital remastering for peak image performance. That sounds like a lot is going on, but the basic experience promises to boil down into this: great cinema that looks great.
Gamers with deep pockets will also be interested in the X95J thanks to the HDMI 2.1 connection providing 4K at 120fps, variable refresh rate and low latency.
The Sony X95J is available now in 75-inches and 85-inches. The all-new 65-inch model will be arriving later this month.
