Planet of Lana: An Off-Earth Odyssey is a game from a new Swedish developer called Wishfully. The game was announced during the kickoff event at the Summer Game Fest 2021.
Host Geoff Keighley described the game as telling “the story of a young girl and her loyal friend who embark on a mission through a colourful world that’s designed to feel like a gouache watercolour painting come to life.”
The trailer begins serenely, with the young protagonist meeting her strange-but-cute animal friend. Soon things begin to take a turn, as mysterious shapes fall from the sky.

From what we’ve seen so far, the gameplay is that of a traditional side-scrolling platformer, with climbing, physics-based puzzles and mini-bosses to outwit. The graphical style is the first thing that draws attention - the game is entirely handpainted. While the lighter moments of the game have an almost Studio Ghibli appearance, the darker moments are reminiscent of the opening stages of Playdead’s 2010 dark platformer, Limbo.
Planet of Lana is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Steam in 2022. The title is also releasing day one on Xbox Game Pass.
