During the Capcom E3 2021 showcase, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin received a new trailer and new content reveal.
The new trailer was a long one, and much like the previous trailers, it was focused heavily on filling out some story beats. In amongst the monologing and discussion on human-monster bonds, there were a few glimpses of gameplay, too.
The game will be available on July 9, 2021. You can pre-order the game here.
Additionally, it was announced that there will be a free title update after release, bringing the Palamute monstie to the game, arriving July 15.
Monster Hunter Stories 2 is a turn-based RPG, unlike mainline action-RPG Monster Hunter games, such as the recent hit Monster Hunter Rise. The first Monster Hunter Stories game was released in 2016 for the Nintendo DS. The stories are unconnected.
Here’s the official product overview from Nintendo for some more background:
“A new adventure awaits you in this second instalment of the turn-based RPG series set in the world of Monster Hunter!
Become a Rider and form bonds with friendly monsters known as Monsties to fight alongside them as you take part in an epic story.
You play as the grandson of Red, a legendary Rider. The story begins with a fateful encounter with Ena, a Wyverian girl who has been entrusted with an egg with the potential to hatch into a legendary Rathalos which could wreak havoc if awakened to its destructive power.
Embark on a journey which will test the bonds of friendship in a changing world, and discover the truth behind the legends of old.”
