Elden Ring, the grimdark collaboration between developer FromSoftware and Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, has finally been showcased. Not only that but a release date has been confirmed: January 21, 2022.

The Elden Ring trailer closed out the Summer Game Fest kickoff event with a suitable amount of sword-swinging and grotesque monsters. You can watch the trailer below:

Originally announced at E3 in 2019, the dark fantasy title has been hotly anticipated by action RPG and Souls-like followers ever since. This is no surprise, given that the game is being developed by FromSoftware and is being directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, who holds Dark Souls, Bloodbourne and Sekiro credits to his name.

The rumoured inclusion of Elden Ring in this particular Summer Game Fest kickoff had been doing the rounds for a few days, and for once, the rumours were right on the money. It wasn’t long until the trailer had been chopped into GIF format and shared, with notable industry figures doing little to hide their excitement:

The hype was real amongst other Twitter users, too:

Elden Ring is developed by FromSoftware and is being published by Bandi Namco. The release date is January 21, 2022.
