Cyberpunk 2077 is the most highly anticipated video game of the year - and potentially even the decade. It’s drawn the attention of the games community for several reasons.
The game is coming to us from CD Project Red, the team behind 2015’s awards-magnet The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and promises to take the developers tried-and-tested deep-RPG sensibilities to all-new levels. The open-world map, which includes techno-metropolis Night City and surrounding wastelands, is one the most densely populated video game worlds we’ve seen to date. This is in terms of world-building lore, skill development, NPCs, side missions and other non-essential actives that are sure to distract and delight players.
CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077 has also found fame through its near-infamous delays. The game was announced in 2012 and has since had many release dates come and go, with three delays in 2020 alone. Supporters of the project have now come to fear the appearance of a yellow-backed announcement from the game’s official social media outlets.
Such delays are understandable in a year that has seen companies suddenly have to adapt in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, CDPR has drawn criticism for its reliance on “crunch,” which sees its team members working extra-long hours and working weeks to meet tight deadlines.
So long as there are no further delays - which seem unlikely at this point - Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on December 10, 2020. Pick your copy up early for PS4, Xbox and PC with these Cyber Monday discounts - click here to save with Currys PC World, or here to save with Base.com.
