Sony is planning a PlayStation 5 digital event on June 3 to finally unveil some of the next-gen console’s games, according to rumours picked up by VentureBeat and Bloomberg.
We may receive some details around games, though it’s unclear whether this will include both launch and planned content. While this is exciting news, any information presented at this conference will likely be limited.
This information’s source is said to be familiar with the company’s plans, though Sony declined Bloomberg’s request for comment. It's also worth noting that these dates aren't set in stone, as the “plans have been in flux and that the date may change”.
Sony has several events planned for the coming weeks and months, suggesting that getting to see the console’s physical appearance, and revelations on a launch date and pricing will be eked out into separate announcements.
It’s also anticipated that an instalment of State Of Play, Sony’s program dedicated to “showcasing all the latest updates, announcements and new trailers from the world of PlayStation,” will land in the first weeks of August.

Though we know little of the gaming content and physical appearance of the PS5, we know what’s going on in terms of hardware. The console will be packing the third-generation of AMD’s Ryzen processors, combined with a Radeon Navi-based GPU. The Ryzen processor in the PS5 will feature eight cores, and use the company’s latest 7nm Zen 2 tech. Ray-tracing and 8K resolution will also be present, as well as an SSD and 100GB game discs. We’ve also got a good look at the PS5’s DualSense Controller, which told us a lot about Sony’s intentions with its new console.
Unlike Microsoft, Sony has been keeping things close to their chest. While the Xbox Series X, the PS5’s rival, has been flooding the internet with streams, updates, and gaming footage, Sony seems to be playing the long game.
Considering some of the backlash Microsoft received about rushing and misleading their followers with hurried streams, as reported by GameRant, this plan appears to be working in the Japanese company’s favour.
