You're spoilt for choice if you like great racing games right now, with the likes of Forza Horizon 4, GT Sport and Project Cars 2 offering an incredible combination of both graphics and realistic handling across the consoles – but using a controller doesn’t do them justice. While racing games are still fun to play with a pad, by adding a humble racing wheel and pedals, things get seriously good.

Want to properly get to grips with games like Gran Turismo Sport and Assetto Corsa's handling models? Fancy honing your reactions and counter-steering from the comfort of your living room? If the answer is yes, read on, as we’ve put together a list of the best steering and racing wheels for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

In 2019, the Thrustmaster T300RS is one of the most popular racing wheels around for the PS4 - and for good reason. The price does make it a big purchase, but you get an extremely high-performing wheel and solid pedals for your money. If you want to get a proper taste of what modern sim racing can be like, the T300RS is a great place to look, as it offers strong force feedback that convincingly feeds information about the car into your hands.Like all Thrustmaster wheels you can mix and match components later on. Therefore, if you want to upgrade your pedals and wheel rims, or add a shifter later down the line, they'll work with your existing set up.

PC owners will already know Logitech makes fantastic third-party peripherals. Just like the company's other goods, the G29 offers up good build quality and solid feedback. It's not as flash as some of the other wheels here, but with Christmas on the way you'll be able to snag one of these for a considerably lower price.

Price: £252.75

If you like the sound of the T300RS but want something for your Xbox, go for the TMX Force Feedback . It's essentially the same wheel but with all the buttons you'd usually find on an Xbox One controller - plus, the price is considerably lower.

If you're a fan of GT Sport, the Thrustmaster TGT should be your first port of call. Built by Thrustmaster but with design input from the people behind Gran Turismo, the TGT is a bespoke build for the PS4's best racing game. It is a very expensive offering, but at least it's leather-coated.Featuring 1080 degrees of rotation (most here have 900) and intuitive dials which easily allow you to tinker with settings like traction control, brake bias and more on the fly, it's perfectly calibrated for GT Sport. It will of course work with virtually any other racing game on the PS4, too. What's more, the TGT is the wheel used at the Gran Turismo world championships, so if you really want to hone your GT eSports in the future, this is the one you ought to buy.

Thrustmaster Ferrari F1 Add-On Wheel (PS4, Xbox One, PC & PS3)
Price: £179.99

The perfect companion for players of F1 2019. This add-on to the T500, T300, TX Racing Wheel Series is a full-size replica of a Ferrari F1 racing wheel. The rotary knobs, switches, action buttons and push and pull shifters are all made with accuracy and robustness in mind u2013 to both last and immerse the player in the F1 experience. As this works with the Thrustmaster series, it'll still give you realistic force feedback.

And one more thing: get a driving seat

Playseat Evolution - Black

All the wheels in this article can be mounted on a table, and while usually fine, I’d recommend pushing the boat out and getting a racing seat instead. Simply put, a racing seat allows you to really unlock the potential of the rest of your setup – so you get the best experience with your kit. Essentially it elevates your set up from ‘just playing at home’ to ‘arcade’ or 'driving sim event' level.

There’s a few to choose from, but I went for a Playseat Revolution. Why? Because it's the best, of course!
