What PS5 games we want to see from the Future Of Gaming stream

The Future Of Gaming PS5 event is taking place on Thursday, June 11 at 9 pm BST. It will be streamed on PlayStation.com, YouTube, and Twitch. The new date and time was confirmed by Sid Shuman, Senior Director of SIE Content Communications, via an announcement on the PlayStation Blog.

The pre-recorded event has set the gaming world abuzz. Sony has been playing its cards pretty close to its chest regarding all things PS5, which caused a little frustration with PlayStation fans at first. However, it appears to be paying dividends now. There’s a palpable excitement amongst the community, with rumours and leaks, hopes, dreams, and expectations, all getting whipped up into a dense wall of gaming anticipation.

While there’s plenty of talk flaring up across the internet, as rounded up by Input, regarding a July 7 console reveal, ghost and dummy pre-order listings appearing on Amazon, and price rumours, we’ve decided to get excited about what we know is going to be revealed - games. Sony’s PlayStation family has an impressive legacy when it comes to exclusives, and we’re hoping to see both familiar and new names popping up in the presentation.

The hardware that’s being packed into the PS5 is sure to open up gameplay potential and virtual environments. While we probably won’t be getting to see what the PS5 console looks like, the games will showcase what matters. Seeing the AMD Ryzen processors, Radeon Navi-based GPU, SSD, Ray Tracing, and Tempest 3D AudioTech in action is sure to be a real delight.

So, let’s see what we’re hoping for.

Godfall

Godfall

We know it’s coming. It’s been confirmed for both PS5 and PC, and now we just want to see it in action. It looks like a Diablo-esque loot-crawler with plenty of hack-and-slash energy – we’re excited to see if it offers anything new to the immensely popular genre.

God Of War 2, Horizon Zero Dawn 2, Marvel Spider-Man 2

God Of War 2, Horizon Zero Dawn 2, Marvel Spider-Man 2

God Of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Marvel Spider-Man are three of the finest games available on the PlayStation 4 – and we want to see them followed up on the PS5. The power that the next-gen console is packing should mean that the scope of these titles expands to hitherto undreamed of proportions.

Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is pretty much an open secret at this point, so the question is more around whether it’ll be ready for launch. Of the bunch, God Of War is the least likely, as the previous instalment only arrived in 2018,

Dead Space?

Dead Space

Antony Johnston, writer behind sci-fi horror-gore masterpiece Dead Space, tweeted out the following:

"As some of you know, I’ve been working on a big video game for almost 2 years now. In totally unrelated news, you should all watch the PS5 launch event on Thursday." (Via VG247)

He followed it up the next day with “Hint: you play a character having a really bad time”. Now, these tweets have since been deleted, but these teasers are more than enough for us to get excited about a potential horrible-but-brilliant game making an appearance.

A first-person shooter, but not COD or Battlefield

Killzone

A solid first-person shooter is going to be essential for the PS5. The genre is a gaming keystone, and an impressive and truly next-gen title is going to please a tonne of players, and hopefully move a lot of consoles early on. It needs to be exciting, too. We can accept that it’ll need a battle royale mode, but it needs to be more than just a Call Of Duty clone.

If we’re pushing the boat out, then we’d love to see a new instalment of the Killzone franchise (it’s been six years!) or, dare we say it, a relaunch of the incredible Resistance series.

Gran Turismo 7

GT Sport

2017’s Gran Turismo Sport is arguably the pinnacle of video game driving simulation thus far (though there's been some tough competition). After an initially rocky beginning, GT Sport has grown into a hugely popular and accomplished game, especially when combined with the PSVR support. GT7 would, undoubtedly, look phenomenal on the new system, and could hint towards the future PSVR 2.

Anything by Naughty Dog

Naughty Dog

Naughty Dog just gets the job done. There’s no doubt that The Last Of Us Part II will be making it to the PS5, so we don’t need to see that. Uncharted 5 is a good bet, as it's one of the most highly rated series of all time. The more ‘casual’ titles would be welcome too - a new outing from Crash Bandicoot or Jak and Daxter wouldn’t go unappreciated.

NBA 2K21

NBA 2K20

Even if you’re not into basketball games, the near-photorealistic graphics are always worth an ogle. We’re especially interested in seeing some gameplay after Strauss Zelnick, head of Take-Two, discussed the power of next-gen.

Something like Bloodborne or Dark Souls

Bloodborne

We want something dripping in a supernatural gothic aesthetic that promises to be near impossible to beat. If the increasingly loud rumours are to be believed, there’s a chance that Bloodborne is being remastered for the PS5 and PC. This is a good start, but a new instalment is what we all want.

A fun one

Ratchet And Clank

The PlayStation had Rayman. The PlayStation 2 had Ratchet And Clank (eventually, in 2002). The PlayStation 3, admittedly, slightly misstepped regarding ‘fun’ titles until LittleBigPlanet and Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. The PlayStation 4 had the woefully under-appreciated Knack.

The PS5 needs a fun little platformer. It needs to be bright, charming, and more than a little goofy.
