In our expert review of the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED laptop we found that it combines sleek design with powerful features, making it ideal for entertainment and creative work on the go. The OLED screen is stunning, delivering deep blacks and vibrant HDR colours as well – so it was perfect for watching 4K movies. The Harman Kardon speakers with Dolby Atmos offer an impressive audio experience, suited to music and more. The included ASUS Pen added significant value for our creative expert and reviewer, making it a portable studio for designers and photographers.

Overall, we appreciate the balance of portability and performance, despite not being suited to high-end gaming due to the graphics chip. We found the Zenbook 14 to be both durable and well-designed, too. Its lightweight yet solid build makes it easy to carry, although we did find the limited port selection a bit of a drawback. Battery life is solid, lasting over five hours under heavy use, and the fans remain quiet even when pushed. All in all, we think this laptop is a great choice for those seeking a versatile, high-quality device for work, rest and play.

Chris Duffill had this to say when he reviewed the laptop: "If you love those deep blacks and vibrant HDR colours, this laptop with its OLED display is perfect for you. Plus, it's got the power you need under the hood, and with extras like the ASUS Pen, it’s a great pick if you want to take your creative projects on the go. And when you’re ready to kick back, your music and movies will sound amazing too – those Harmon Kardon speakers paired with Dolby Atmos create a level of immersion you wouldn’t expect from a small laptop."

Best budget

Expert rating:
4.0

While ASUS excel when it comes to high-end high-budget laptops, this ASUS Vivobook 15 P1504CZA really is a budget-friendly laptop that delivers solid performance for everyday computing tasks. With an Intel Core i3-N305 processor and 8 GB of RAM, it’s capable of handling daily activities such as web browsing, word processing, and streaming without a hitch. The 15.6-inch Full HD display provides ample screen real estate for work and entertainment, too. That makes it a great choice for anyone who has a limited budget but doesn't want to sacrifice reliability.

We do think, though, that the Vivobook 15’s performance may lag with more demanding professional applications or heavy multitasking. However, for those in need of an affordable, straightforward laptop that handles light everyday computing with ease, this model is hard to beat.

Pros

  • Affordability doesn't mean a lack of quality or performance, with military grade toughness and 8GB of RAM respectively
  • The Full HD 15.6-inch screen is a generous size for this price point
  • Super-long battery life will keep you working or browsing all day

Best for graphic design

Chris Duffill, What's The Best

In his review of the ASUS ProArt P16, Chris Duffill found it to be a fantastic performer for professional creatives. And that's thanks to its powerful AMD Ryzen AI 9 CPU, 64GB RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU. It's built to handle the most demanding tasks and the 16-inch 4K OLED display offers industry-standard colour accuracy. We particularly appreciated the AI-driven tools like StoryCube and MuseTree, too – both with genuinely useful features that can enhance workflow.

However, the laptop's lack of a fully foldable design and shorter battery life under heavy use might be drawbacks for some users. That said, for us, the ASUS ProArt P16 is more than just a laptop – it’s a portable creative studio. Whether working on illustrations, graphic design, or video editing, the seamless performance and AI enhancements make it an exceptional tool. The device’s build quality is top-notch, and the included stylus with over 4000 pressure sensitivity levels is a bonus. Our reviewer found not being able to fold it flat to draw on was a little jarring over long periods, but that's true of any touchscreen device used vertically. While it might be overkill for casual users, for those deeply invested in creative work, this laptop is a worthy investment. We highly recommend it for designers and creatives seeking unmatched portable performance.

Chris said this reflecting on his time spent testing the laptop: "If you've got the budget and truly need top-tier creative tools and productivity features, this is as good as it gets in laptop performance right now. Honestly, I haven't used a better laptop for creative media production."

Pros

  • High-performance AI-boosted hardware tailored for creative professionals
  • 16-inch 4K OLED display with excellent colour accuracy, works with the included stylus
  • Premium build quality and military-grade toughness

Cons

  • Some may find not being able to fold it flat when using the stylus a bit uncomfortable

When he reviewed the ASUS Zenbook DUO OLED laptop, Chris Duffill was seriously impressed with the design and build. The innovative star of the show is the dual-screen design, offering a 14-inch OLED main display and a secondary screen that enhances multitasking. For us, the twin OLED displays are a game-changer, especially for video editors, as they provide extra space for managing tools, panels and timelines. With its Intel Ultra 9 processor, 32GB RAM, and 2TB SSD, the laptop delivers powerful performance suitable for demanding tasks like rendering effects and 4K video – though the battery life does take a hit in dual-screen mode as you might expect.

We like that this laptop is equally well-suited for both video professionals and other creatives who need robust computing power and extra desktop real estate on the go. The build quality feels premium, and the OLED displays deliver vibrant, accurate colours – ideal for colour grading video editing and photo work. Overall, the Zenbook DUO OLED is a versatile and powerful laptop that excels in productivity, creative work, and – once you've finished editing your movie masterpiece – even casual gaming.

After testing, our reviewer had this to say: "I found the ASUS Zenbook DUO OLED to be perfect for multitaskers tired of the single-screen experience. Its dual 14-inch OLED displays boost productivity and workflow, and the vibrant screens are easy on the eyes. I liked how the detachable keyboard and trackpad create a comfortable mobile workstation. It handles heavy-duty applications with ease, making it a solid desktop replacement. In short, it’s one of the best laptops for work and entertainment."

Pros

  • Highly practical and usable dual OLED touchscreen displays with integrated stand
  • Lots of raw computing power and fast storage for more advanced tasks and apps
  • A premium look and feel with solid build quality

Olivia Sheed, What's The Best

In our writer Olivia Sheed's review of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16, she found that ASUS and ROG may have finally hit the sweet spot for gaming laptops. From the outside, it's refreshingly understated, with the sleek finish offering no hints of its gaming prowess – no flashy RGB lighting here. But don't let its subtle exterior fool you; this laptop is a beast where it counts. At its core, you'll find a formidable 4090 GPU paired with an Ultra 9 processor, delivering top-tier performance across the most demanding AAA titles. Whether you're cranking up the settings with ray tracing on or off, the visuals are nothing short of breathtaking, thanks to the 240 Hz OLED display – a feature rarely seen in laptops, making this model truly stand out.

Of course, it does grapple with the typical challenges that gaming laptops face, namely heat management and battery life. Fortunately, ASUS has tackled the former with a dual-fan system and a vapor chamber, keeping temperatures in check even during intense sessions. However, the battery life remains a limitation, with no groundbreaking solutions here. Despite these minor setbacks, the Zephyrus remains a top contender on best gaming laptop lists. While it may come with a premium price tag, its performance and features make it worth every penny.

Here's a note from Olivia after her testing: "There’s a lot to appreciate with this laptop: running ray tracing anywhere, the brilliant screen for TV shows, and the impressive design. However, a few small things stand out, like the lack of a privacy shutter, soldered RAM, and some inconsistent benchmarks. For £4,000, perfection would be an idea but I am okay with these minor issues."

"If you're not a hardcore gamer or animator, the 4080 model might be a better fit. It offers more balanced performance for £600 less without the GPU being limited by the form factor, along with excellent cooling. Whatever you choose, the Zephyrus line remains strong, despite these small quirks."

Pros

  • Sleek and mature design for those wanting an undercover performance
  • Great speakers, equipped with Dolby Atmos
  • Bright and vivid OLED, one of the few laptops equipped with it
  • Supported by the great Armoury software for monitoring performance and configuring specific settings

Best for students

Harvey Isitt, What's The Best

In his review of the ASUS Vivobook S 14 OLED laptop, our writer Harvey Isitt found it to be a solid choice for students or anyone who needs a portable, high-performance laptop. We appreciate its vibrant OLED display, which offers rich colours and deep blacks, making it ideal for study and entertainment. The sleek, all-metal design is not only stylish but also durable, although we found that it does attract fingerprints. Thankfully, the laptop excels in battery life, lasting up to 15.5 hours – more than enough for long study sessions, work or travel.

What we love about this as a laptop for students is the Vivobook S 14 OLED's portability, robust port selection, and reliable performance. It handles multitasking with ease, whether its streaming videos or managing multiple browser tabs – both crucial for academic and leisure activities. While the glossy screen may cause some glare and the AI-powered Copilot key might not be as ground-breaking as expected, these minor drawbacks don't overshadow the overall value this laptop offers for those who need to study by day and have entertainment and browsing by night.

Harvey shared his thoughts with us: "This is a fantastic choice for those wanting a high-performance laptop at a sensible price. Its vibrant OLED display offers deep blacks and stunning colours, making it perfect for at-home entertainment. I found it really nice to work on too, with that screen being nice on the eyes and the battery running throughout the day."

Pros

  • Vibrant and colour-accurate 14-inch OLED HDR display

Best for photo editing

Expert rating:
4.5

For us, the ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED is a premium laptop that’s a photographer's dream come true. Yes, the 14.5-inch OLED display delivers the exceptional colour accuracy and sharpness you need for precise photo editing, but the standout feature is the secondary display. ASUS call this the ScreenPad Plus and it gives you a unique extra workspace for docking your editing tools, panels and more. Powered by an Intel Core i9-13900H and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050, this laptop easily handles Adobe Lightroom and other more demanding photo editing software, too.

However, we do think the low tilt angle of the secondary display might take a little getting used to at first. Despite this, photo editors seeking a powerful and feature-rich laptop will love the Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED – its the best option available short of getting a dual monitor setup. If you are editing your photos on a laptop like this one but still wish you had a larger display, the ASUS ProArt monitor we reviewed is a brilliant way to bring the same colour accuracy to your desktop – just connect your laptop and enjoy pro-level clarity and detail.

Pros

  • The dual-screen design with the second ScreenPad Plus screen makes for a handy extra space to dock toolbars, panels and more as you edit.
  • High-resolution OLED display ensures accurate colours
  • The addition of a stylus and other features aimed at media professionals.

Best 2-in-1

Expert rating:
4.5

We really love the latest innovations in laptop design, but our favourite trend is the 2-1in-1 laptop. The ASUS ZenBook 14 Flip is excellent for those who need flexibility without compromising on performance. Torn between buying a laptop or a tablet? Well this one has a 360-degree hinge which allows it to transform into tablet mode. That makes it ideal for presentations, sketching, or note-taking.

Best of all, the 14-inch OLED touchscreen provides clear visuals at 2.8K resolution, making it a joy to use in any mode. Powered by an Intel Core i7-1360P and 16 GB of RAM, it offers smooth performance for a variety of tasks, too – from content creation to productivity. We do think that holding 1.4kg of weight in tablet mode for longer periods might be a strain for some. Nevertheless, this is a a high-quality 2-in-1 laptop that combines versatility with premium features.

Pros

  • Versatile 2-in-1 design with a 360-degree hinge – perfect for users who need a laptop and tablet functionality
  • The beautiful OLED touchscreen offers a high-resolution, vibrant experience – perfect for for media and professional use
  • Despite the convertible design, it's just as light as other non-convertible models

Cons

Best for office work

Expert rating:
4.0

Not all ASUS machines need to be high-performance beasts, and the ASUS Laptop Vivobook 15 F1505ZA proves it. It's a reliable and efficient choice for all kinds of office work, combining a Full HD OLED display with solid performance. The Intel Core i5-1235U processor and 16 GB of RAM will handle office applications with ease. You'll enjoy using this for multitasking, and even some light creative tasks, too.

The 15.6-inch OLED display once again delivers the visual quality and clarity you need to reduce eye strain during a longer working day. Additionally, the laptop’s comfortable keyboard and spacious trackpad are designed with productivity in mind. We do find that one potential drawback for workaholics is its average battery life. Around 8 hours is more than reasonable, but if you're a multitasking power-user you might find you need to plug in before the end of the day. However, for those who need to take a robust laptop on the commute, the Vivobook 15 F1505ZA is an excellent option.

Pros

  • The Full HD OLED display with it's excellent colour and clarity make it ideal for those long working hours
  • The well-designed keyboard and large trackpad enhance productivity and comfort
  • The i5 processor and 16GB of RAM are well-suited to all kinds of office applications and more

Cons

  • Although the battery life is more than reasonable, if you're burning the midnight oil you'll probably need to plug-in for a recharge.

Best compact

Expert rating:
4.0

We think that this compact powerhouse of a laptop is the best of all worlds. The ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED is the ultimate compact option for those who want power in a highly portable package. It weighs in at just 1.1 kg and has a super-slim profile that's easy to carry. Commuters or just those who like to travel light will love the 13.3-inch OLED display. The 2.8K resolution here provides the extra detail and clarity you need from a smaller display. With an Intel Core i7-1355U processor and 16 GB of RAM, it's suitable for a wide range of tasks, from office work to watching YouTube on the train.

However, we did notes that its compact form factor results in a limited number of ports, so count them up and – if you need more invest in some adapters. Despite this, the Zenbook S 13 OLED excels as the best compact laptop in our list, offering a great mix of portability, performance, and display quality for those on the move.

All that said, if you need a compact laptop but want the flexibility of adding more screen space when you need it, the ASUS Zenscreen we reviewed is the ideal clip-on portable display for any laptop.

Pros

  • The thin, compact and lightweight design makes it perfect for use on-the-go
  • The super-long battery life ensures it can last the whole day and beyond
  • The powerful performance and an OLED display make this a leading option above mosr other compact laptops

Cons

How to choose the best ASUS laptop for you

Prioritise your needs

There’s no doubt that ASUS make a lot of high-end quality kit with plenty of power, but even then you need to choose carefully. Each machine, no matter how similar their specs, will have features and capabilities that make them better suited than others. It all depends on what you need to achieve with it.

Designers and creatives

Most content creators and artists need a bright, accurate display with natural colours and high resolution. Anyone authoring 4K videos or working on ultra high-definition graphics should consider an OLED screen. An OLED display has all of those qualities, as well as excellent contrast and black levels.

They’ll also need a fast processor – something from the mid-range Intel i7, Ryzen 7 or greater. At the top end, some of the latest CPUs incorporate AI to superpower image generation and CoPilot and so on. RAM should ideally be 16GB or greater.  Creatives can also make use of laptops with touchscreens and pressure sensitive art pens. Lastly, a decent amount of SSD storage for super fast load times and space for those larger-than-usual media files is a must. Look for anything over 1TB.

Office work

Perhaps the easiest category to fulfil, general office work and casual web browsing requires the least amount of system resources. You can find an ASUS laptop under £1000 with a CPU like an Intel i3 or Ryzen 3 and it’ll power all of your Microsoft Office tasks like spreadsheets, word processing and Outlook. Storage needs are also lower than others, as most office documents are very small in size. Go for anything above 500GB for the most flexibility. As for memory, 4GB is an absolute minimum, with 8GB or more being ideal.  If you spend a lot of time on Teams or Zoom, you’ll be happy to know that all ASUS laptops have a built-in webcam, too.

Two important aspects to look for here are screen size and display technology. Long hours at a laptop can result in eye strain, so choose a laptop with a larger screen (larger than 14-inch) if you have a lot of data to work on. Lastly, if it’s not an OLED, the display itself should ideally be an IPS panel as colours and contrast are better than TFT displays. We have a guide to panel types if you want to know more.

An ASUS laptop on a desk
The contrast, black levels and colour accuracy on an OLED ASUS laptop are exceptional ©Chris Duffill, What's The Best

Gamers

Serious laptops for gamers should run the latest AAA games at high framerates, so they’ll need similar high amounts of RAM, larger displays, and powerful CPUs to that in laptops for creatives. But, most importantly, the screen needs to have a high and variable refresh rate that enables at least 120Hz and higher framerates. Lastly, the graphics card should never be one that’s integrated into the main motherboard, as they won’t have the power to deliver ultra high resolution 3D graphics. We recommend you look for Nvidia RTX series cards.

General use and home entertainment

If you just need a reliable machine that’s capable with it comes to streaming videos, light gaming, some office tasks and web browsing, you can find an ASUS laptop that will do it all. A mid-range spec with 8GB of RAM and a Ryzen i7 or higher will be fine, but you may want an OLED screen and built-in speakers with Dolby Atmos if you’re using it for watching movies. Consider a larger SSD too, or an external Solid State Drive, if you have a large collection of applications, movies or personal files.

Consider portability

Thankfully, even the larger and more powerful ASUS laptops are lighter than many similar machines from other brands. Even the impressive ASUS Zenbook Duo OLED with it’s two screens, built-in stand and detachable keyboard only weighs in at 1.65kg – that’s lighter than many single-screen machines.

That said, if you do need to travel with your laptop you should always consider these things: the size and weight, and a decent protective laptop backpack or bag to keep it secure.

Don’t overspend on features you won’t use

We do applaud ASUS for its seemingly endless array of add-ons, extra tools and specialist features. In our review of the ASUS ProArt P16 laptop, we found a pressure sensitive stylus, an OLED display, an AI-powered processor and various creative AI tools to name but a few. They’re cool, but do you really need them? If you have the budget, why not. But for the rest of us, cut your cloth to fit. If you know you’ll be watching movies on your ASUS laptop, get one with a superior screen and better sound (or buy a great external laptop speaker) – but if you’re not going to be watching serious content on it, and just want a bit of YouTube now and again, ditch the advanced features and save yourself a good amount of cash.

We maintain complete editorial independence and do not accept payment for product reviews. Our writers have full control over their content, ensuring that products are selected based solely on the needs of our readers. While we may earn commissions or other compensation from links on our website, this never affects our product choices. These links enable us to continue offering valuable consumer advice, without compromising the integrity of our reviews.
