AOC has announced the 16T2, an all-new portable touchscreen monitor. The 16T2 carries a 15.6-inch full-HD screen and 8000 mAh battery, and USB-C and Micro HD connectivity. The touchscreen has ten-point touch recognition.

The AOC 16T2 allows users to take their multi-monitor setups with them wherever they go with ease due to its simplified design. It's not just for laptops, though. The device can also be used to extend to the display of a smartphone.

The USB-C connection carries all the information needed to and from the monitor, while the internal battery removes the need for a powered mains plug connection. The monitor can also be used as an external battery pack, allowing smartphones and other devices to be charged via one of its two USB-C connections.

At only 9mm thick and weighing only 99g, the 16T2 has a portability akin to a tablet, and the smart cover protects the screen from damage during transit. This case is articulated, allowing it to act as a versatile stand for the monitor.

Though primarily designed as a portable monitor, the 16T2 has VESA mounting points on the rear. These mounting points will allow the monitor to serve as an interactive display in a kiosk, or even be used as a server, video or chat monitor in a home office.

The AOC 16T2 will be released in October 2020 with an RRP of £279.

Features:

Screen: Full-HD 15.6-inch screen with 60Hz refresh rate and 4ms response time. IPS panel and WLED backlight

Connections: Micro HDMI and two UCB-C

Audio: Headphone out, two 1W stereo speakers

VESA: 75

Who is the 16T2 for?

AOC has designed the 16T2 portable monitor to be as versatile as possible. Those who spend a lot of time away from work, spending many hours working on trains and in hotels, will benefit from the extra screen space wherever they go. Likewise, students and those working from home who are limited in space, or are wanting to keep a minimal home office, will appreciate the ability to pack the screen away after use.

AOC has also noted that the monitor may appeal to: servers, engineering tasks, mobile gaming and entertainment.

What's the 16T2 up against?

The portable monitor market isn’t exactly saturated, but the AOC 16T2 is going to have to go up against the following:

AOCu2019s most direct competitor, the touchscreen ZenScreen from ASUS is highly regarded. Like the 16T2, it comes with a built-in battery, full-HD display, USB-C connectivity and ten-point recognition. However, itu2019s more expensive than the AOC offering by about £50.

For those not fussed about touchscreen, the MB169C+ offers an affordable choice. Itu2019s USB-C connectivity and full-HD screen are all that some will need.
