Known for its budget prices and great quality tech, Skullcandy is one of the most popular headphone brands. And now it's just gone and released a new product, a pair of wireless earbuds - the Skullcandy Dime Earbuds.

They are available in four different colours, dark blue/green, true black, light grey/blue, and in dark grey, so you won't be stuck for choice. The earbuds also feature a charging case, which is around the same size as a set of car keys, making it incredibly easy to transport. Oh, and the best part? You're getting all of this for just £29.99.

Skullcandy Dime Earbuds review

I've broken down my analysis of this audio accessory into five parts - audio, design, controls, price and availability and finally our verdict. Feel free to jump ahead to the section you're most interested in.

Audio

Arguably the most important component of these earbuds is the audio quality. I'm happy to report that when it comes to music, they provide a very full sound with a powerful bass. The quality of mobile calls and podcasts was also excellent - the dialogue is very clean and the individual's voices' are emphasised.

The audio isn't completely noise-cancelling, so there won't be able to replace your wireless noise-cancelling headphones. They're also not built to be wind-resistant, so watch out for taking calls or listening to podcasts outside in windy weather.

However, the upside of this is you will be able to be more aware of your surroundings whilst using them, making them a great choice for when you're going on a run or exercising outdoors.

When it comes to music, the sound is very clear and full, allowing you to really hear different instruments, the percussion component is especially highlighted when listening to heavier as well as contemporary (especially EDM) genres of music.

What I also really liked about these earbuds is that they have a microphone in each bud, meaning you only need one bud to take calls. The audio of these earbuds rivals those of Airpods for a fraction of the price.

Design

As previously mentioned, these earbuds come in four different colours. The above image displays these in a dark blue/green and you'll also find the signature skull of the brand on the outside of these earbuds.

The actual design itself is sleek and very lightweight, making them very transportable. Another awesome feature they have is that they are IPX4 rated, meaning they are water and sweat-resistant (this is the same as the AirPods Pro) - so feel free to take them with you on your adventures!

Although they don't come with a charger for the case, it is compatible with a micro-USB, so chances are you have one at home.

The earbuds are made out of hard, durable plastic, meaning that you won't need to worry about your car keys or coins scratching them as they're very solid. Bearing this in mind, the charging case is also pretty compact and tough.

Controls and wireless connection

Even though the Skullcandy Dime earbuds are small and really easy to transport, that doesn't mean they're not feature-packed when it comes to functions. The logo of the brand, found on the exterior of the earbuds is what you will press to engage the commands.

• Press once to play/pause a song or start/end a call

• Press twice to put the volume up or down

• Press three times to engage Siri or any other virtual assistant

This is a pretty impressive amount of functions packed into such small earbuds. You'll be able to skip songs, change the volume and even engage your virtual assistant without touching your phone. These earbuds are compatible with both Google Assistant and Siri.

Additionally, according to our testing, they support a wireless connection of up to 30 feet before the connection starts to buffer.

It's also super straightforward and easy to connect, no need to turn them on, simply take the earbuds out of the case and ensure whatever you're pairing it to has the Bluetooth on. It will also pair automatically with the last device used.

Unfortunately their total battery life is feeble compared to other brands - the earbuds last up to 3.5 hours out of the case and 8.5 hours in the charging case. This isn't as long as other more expensive earbuds - the Apple AirPods deliver 24 hours of battery life out of the case.

Another downside is that the case doesn't support wireless charging.

Price and availability

One of the most attractive aspects of these earbuds is their price - they're only £29.99. You're getting a pretty sweet deal considering all the features they pack.

In terms of availability, they are currently available exclusively on Skullcandy.

Verdict

All in all, Skullcandy has done a superb job in creating a pair of earbuds with a rich sound, whilst also boasting an array of control features and being extremely easy to transport. When it comes to the audio, it also delivers clear musical components of music such as the percussion or a powerful bass, it also isolates vocals and individual voices.

However, this is not for anyone who wants an all-singing-all-dancing set of earbuds - if you're looking for a long lasting battery life or special characteristics, you'll need to spend a bit more and look at some of the other best wireless earbuds.

I still highly recommend these earbuds, not only are they a fraction of the price of their competitors, but they provide just as much as some other more expensive models. It's incredible value for price and if you're looking for some earbuds that provide a full sound, then the Skullcandy Dime are the ones for you.
