I love coffee. This doesn’t come as a surprise to any friends or family reading this, and they also know my love of a good coffee machine at home.

Normally, when working full-time in the office, I’d have at least one coffee-shop brew a day – probably more like two a day, if I’m honest; partly out of habit, partly out of ceremony, and partly just because I like the taste and an instant coffee just doesn’t have the same hit.

For obvious reasons, over the past year, those regular coffee shop trips haven’t happened. No longer do I stroll through the office, reusable mug (naturally) in hand, fresh, strong latte on the go.

Instead, I’m working from home pretty permanently.

I’m not a fan of instant coffee, so I have noticed my coffee intake dip a lot. Then I realised I was missing the routine of a nice coffee, so I rooted out my espresso machine. But as much as I love it, having an espresso machine is a long-winded affair, not made for quick fixes or indeed for busy working days (or busy weekends with a toddler, either).

When I was offered the chance to test out the new Tassimo Bosch My Way 2 machine, I jumped at it. I’ve never used a pod coffee machine before, so I was intrigued at how easy it would be to use, and whether the coffee would reach my normal standards.

How easy is it to use?

Very easy. To set the machine up, you have to run water through it a few times, but once it’s ready, simply lift up the front lid, pop in a pod, shut the lid, and press the main button. Job done.

How easy is it to personalise your drinks?

Again, very easy. You can programme the machine to have four pre-set favourites, and you can choose the strength, temperature, and size of the drink. It’s all controlled through simple buttons on the front and it’s simple to learn and set up. Very user friendly and idiot-proof.

How good is the coffee?

If you like a coffee shop latte or cappuccino, or even hot chocolate, there is a wide range of 40 drinks to choose from – you can buy the pods online in bulk (saving you a few pennies), or pop them in your basket at the supermarket.

If you’re a real coffee aficionado, I have to admit that it’s not the same quality as when you’re using an espresso machine. You won’t necessarily feel like an authentic Italian barista, but there are so many types of coffee pods to choose from that there’s a range of quality.

The machine also features a Britax Maxtra water filter system, which not only keeps the water top quality for your drinks, but also keeps the system clean with limescale kept to a minimum – great if you live in a hard water area.

You can also use the machine for tea and hot chocolate, too – so it’s not limited just to coffee.

The verdict:

I would recommend the Tassimo Bosch My Way 2 for its simplicity and ease of use. I found having this machine during my working day meant a decent frothy coffee was quickly on hand, easy to make and no fuss. I also found, as a mum of a toddler, that this was an easy way to get a good coffee fix – better than instant, but not as complicated as an espresso machine.

I also find using my espresso machine needs time to enjoy – not just the process of making it, but then languishing in a comfy chair and savouring the coffee. This isn’t truly possible with a toddler, or on a working day, so a simple but enjoyable coffee from this pod machine is the ideal balance and compromise.

The main downside I find is the fact that the pods aren’t recyclable. This is probably the biggest thing that would put me off investing in this machine. If I were to buy a pod coffee machine, I’d look for one where I could recycle the pods and choose a sustainable option.

The Tassimo Bosch My Way 2 is available in four colours – black, white, red, and cream.
