LECHUZA CLASSICO Color 28 Medium Flower Indoor/Outdoor Garden Table Self-Watering Planter1 of 9

Lechuza Classico Flower Garden Table Self-Watering Planter

Lechuza is a well-known brand in the industry, and these pots are suitable for indoor or outdoor use. There's a visual indicator to let you know when the reservoir is full and a drainage system for outdoor use. They're available in a range of sizes, are lightweight, and look great.

Review: "Since I have repotted, my already massive Monstera Deliciosa (Swiss Cheese Plant) has almost doubled in size in three months, and now it is a giant. The constant and regulated watering is doing wonders for my plant, and I have also got a Lechuza Premium Quadro for a Fiddle Leaf Fig since then. I can very strongly recommend this to use with any plants that need regulated watering."

LECHUZA BALCONERA Color 80 Large Flower Indoor/Outdoor Garden Table Self-Watering Planter2 of 9

Lechuza Balconera Large Flower Self-Watering Planter

This planter from Lechuza is modern and robust. Similar to the previous product, it has a visual indicator and drainage system for outdoor use. The brackets to hang these are sold separately, so don't forget to grab a pair.

Review: "I have quite a lot of plants, so cutting down on watering time is great. This does the job - it takes a lot of water (like a whole watering can), and then you don't have to water for over a month. The water level indicator is great and makes it clear when it needs more. Assembly is easy - I think I found a video on YouTube. It can also be used outside, you need to remove a plug from it to allow drainage. I've only used it with these tradescantias, so other plants may not take so well, but these have been loving life!"

Cole & Mason Fresh Herb Range Self-Watering Potted Herb Keeper3 of 9

Cole & Mason Fresh Herb Range Self-Watering Potted Herb Keeper

This planter is perfectly designed for herbs and comes with 12 hydro-felt pads which draw the water as required. The pads are washable and will need cleaning after around three months. Fill up the reservoir via the spout and ensure to check the level regularly as this one doesn't come with an indicator.

Review: "Great so far! My mint and basil pots are loving life at the moment. First time I haven't killed herb plants. So they are happy. Would recommend topping up the bowl at the bottom every few days."

Mkouo Plastic Plant Pots 3 Pack Self Watering Planter4 of 9

Mkouo Plastic Plant Pots 3 Pack Self Watering Planter

Working via the traditional cotton-wicking method, this set of three pots is great value for money. There's no indicator on these, so will need to check your plants regularly. There are two sizes available: medium and large.

Review: "Great looking pots, sturdy and strong - my plants are thriving indoors on a windowsill, and I am a complete novice. Fantastic self-watering, I check the water daily as some plants are more thirsty than others. I use a little plant food every couple of weeks too. Would highly recommend it to others. I would love these pots to come in more sizes. Thank you."

T4U Self Watering Planter Pot Rectangle 27CM Set of 35 of 9

T4U Self Watering Planter Pot

Available in three colours, these planters have a small window so you can see the water level, which may please those who don't want an indicator sticking out of the top.

Review: "Very nice product, looks very nice and trendy. Perfect for my herbs and looks amazing on any window sill. Quite sturdy too."

T4U Self Watering Planter Pot Round6 of 9

T4U Self Watering Planter Pot Round

If you want all your pots to match, you can also grab this pack of six round pots to go with the previous rectangle planter. The actual space for plants is smaller than advised, so take this into account before purchasing.

Review: "It is a nice quality pot, lovely colours and design. However, the size stated in description is misleading. I bought pots stated as 16.5 cm. And if you measure the whole pot diameter it is 16.5, BUT actual space for a plant is 12.5 cm. So BE AWARE that the big plant which needs a 15 cm pot will not fit in this one. I still kept this set, use them for other plants."

T4U Plastic Hanging Planter Self Watering Basket with Detachable Base7 of 9

T4U Plastic Hanging Planter Self Watering Basket

A great addition to your front garden or for hanging succulents indoors, this lightweight and weatherproof self-watering hanging basket planter comes in a set of 2 with a range of sizes available. You can even get it in this cute mint green colour!

Review: "This is a high quality, all-in-one, hanging plastic planter that has a great drainage system, so roots get the right balance of water and air. I started with the clay set in the photo and purchased a second set in mint green. You can't beat the price."

DIVCHI Self Watering Globes8 of 9

DIVCHI Self Watering Globes

If you need a temporary watering device for hanging baskets or indoor plants while you're away, these watering globes do a great job. You simply fill them up, pop them in the pots and let them go to work. They are quite large, so won't be suitable for smaller pots.

Review: "I bought this for a succulent I bought for my room. I'm not too experienced with looking after plants so this is ideal as it seems to water the plants when needed. You could really see that the bulbs work as there were a few very hot days last week and the water went down quite a lot, yet as soon as it cooled down the water level has barely moved, so it seems the plant does really absorb the water 'on demand'."

Garden Grow Self Watering 4 Tier9 of 9

Garden Grow Self Watering 4 Tier

If you love your veggies, this tomato tower is a great option for effortless vegetable growing. There are four levels so you can increase the height of your tower as your plants grow. Simply fill the planter with soil and add water to the well and you're on your way.

Review: "Found it's easy to assemble, saves floor space and no big tray on the floor. How well the tomatoes will grow has to be seen, but I am really pleased with this (and more so as they were cheaper than what I had seen elsewhere). I would imagine sweet peas would go well in this as well as long as it's not in a windy position."

How do self-watering pots work?

Most self-watering plant pots, or sub-irrigation planters, consist of a water reservoir and wicking system, which allow the plant roots to absorb water and maintain a level of moisture. Plants will only draw the amount that's needed, so it's an effective way to keep them healthy.
