Spending time in nature can really help us all to be more present and feel more connected to the world around us. Adding a bird feeder to your garden will help to attract a range of birds and give you the chance to learn more about them. Feeding garden birds is good for us and it’s certainly good for them.

In May 2019, a survey by the British Trust for Ornithology found that through feeding them, we’re helping to sustain populations of birds and encourage those who were once on the decline, back into our gardens.

Of course, if you’re wanting to feed the birds, you’ll be looking for bird feeders that look great in your garden – perhaps adding some colour to a tree or brightening up a dull corner of your outside space. To save you a job, we’ve found five of the best bird feeders – we know you’ll love them.

Geezy Rustic Cast Iron Feeder1 of 5

Geezy Rustic Cast Iron Feeder

Excuse the pun but we think this a great feeder for lovebirds and would make a wonderful gift for a friend who has just moved into a new house or who is getting married. In an antique brown tone, it will seamlessly blend into the trees giving the birds a chance to hide away, out of site from pesky cats and predators. You can also attach to a bracket if you don't have a suitable tree.

Wildlife World Bempton Bird Table2 of 5

Wildlife World Bempton Bird Table

This premium bird feeder might just encourage the poshest of birds to visit your garden. Made of FSC timber, it's an ethical choice and with a verdigris copper roof, it gives birds shelter from the elements while they enjoy a feast. With a low entry point, you'll help to keep away larger birds who might be looking for a smaller bird to feast on. This is one of the prettiest bird feeders we've ever seen and we know your birds will love it too.

Vintage Metal Hanging Chain Bird Feeder3 of 5

Vintage Metal Hanging Chain Bird Feeder

How cute is this?! With a distressed look, you'd be forgiven for thinking this is a vintage piece. A real bargain, we think you could get a few and suspend them from one of your favourite trees and watch the birds flock to your bird buffet! Use as a feeder to attract small garden birds such as finches, tits and sparrows or fill up with a little water to provide a place for your feathered friends to have a little wash or drink. Could there be a better bird cafe?

Copper Bird Feeders, £84.954 of 5

Copper Bird Feeders, £84.95

These are the Rolls-Royce of birdfeeders and wouldn't look out of place in a gallery. If you've got a very modern garden with an abundance of ornamental grasses, try and poke these into the foliage. This will create private dining areas for birds and the copper will stay shiny for some time before weathering beautifully and becoming part of your garden. notonthehighstreet.com

Pinecone Bird Feeder, £14.995 of 5

Pinecone Bird Feeder, £14.99

This feeder is a beautiful object that would make a wonderful piece of garden art and that's even before you fill out with seeds. To attract more bird species why not try and put different types of seeds into each of the feeding 'bowls'. Robins love most seeds and are also partial to a little cheese - just crumble a little stale, mild cheese into the feeder and see what happens. Just steer clear of any fancy, smelly cheeses. primrose.co.uk
