Summer's pretty much here, and we're all spending a lot more time at home - and there are only so many times you can go for a walk or let the kids play on their Xbox before they’ll start saying those two dreaded words: “I’m bored.”
There are some incredible garden games that you can get the whole family involved in. All you’ll need to do is invest in some outdoor games and step through your back door into your garden.
But, these aren’t just ANY outdoor games. No, no, no. These are giant outdoor games - much bigger and better than your average board games. Even better, they’re some of the best ones to try out with your whole family this summer. Although these games might not boast the latest technology, they make up for it in classic fun. If nothing else, it’s a chance to get some more vitamin D.
I know what you’re thinking, you’re probably surmising that A) fat chance getting outside with our British weather or B) the novelty of a giant outdoor game will soon wear off. I thought that too. But, it didn’t wear off. We now have weekly family games where we battle it out in our own Olympic style outdoor games. And, as for the rain… We just brolly and coat it.
If this sounds right up your street, you don’t even have to trawl the internet to find the best giant outdoor games because I’ve found some of them for you already. Let the games begin...
The best giant games to play outdoors
Giant Noughts and Crosses
Challenge your kids to the ultimate battle of noughts and crosses. This upsized version of the classic will be a great addition to your garden this summer, especially as it's so easy to put together. This game is made of foam, so it won't break even if it starts to rain cats and dogs.
Wooden Skittles
Are you willing to go up against your friends and family? Demand a rematch as you'll have to lay down the law(n) with this brilliant garden game. Each set contains nine skittles and two balls. Plus, it's great entertainment for kids and will keep you all entertained for hours of fun.
Tumble Tower
This is the garden game I remember playing with my family when I was a little girl. Giant Jenga will have you poking and prodding bricks until they all tumble down. Cue screaming family members, am I right? Course I am. But, what I didn't know was that these blocks are sanded down to ensure they're smooth to touch.
Giant Snakes and Ladders
Sliding into the DM? If you know, you know… But, that risky business won't be happening with a giant game of snakes and ladders. Unless we've got some cheaters in our midst. This family-friendly game comes with a three-metre mat, inflatable dice and eight green pegs to hold you in place.
Large Chess Set
Knights at the ready? I've been practising how to get good at chess for years and I've still not managed to master the dark art. Maybe, if I'd invested in this fun set earlier than I'd have had better luck. This ginormous chessboard will keep you outside until you're shouting checkmate!
