Have you watched The Home Edit on Netflix yet? If not, we urge you to; the satisfaction of watching a kitchen being organised is the escapism we need right now.
The show is based around an American pair of women, Clea and Joanna, who have created their own business organising other people’s homes (and lives); they have a variety of celeb clients, including Reese Witherspoon and Khloe Kardashian, but also a host of regular clients like you and me, too.
The joy of the show lies in the simplicity: edit; categorize; zone. Edit your belongings and get rid of anything you don’t use or love; organise them into categories; then create zones in your home to contain those items and keep them all useable.
One of my favourite elements of The Home Edit is their dedication to the rainbow; they frequently organise clothing and gear in a rainbow colour system. It doesn’t just look great, it makes a lot of sense too. I’m in the process of organising my book shelf into a rainbow of colour – it’s very cathartic.
I’m sure we could all benefit from The Home Edit women coming into our lives and sorting out our homes; however, we can probably only stretch to borrowing their ethos and organising our own shelves. With that in mind, it’s important to invest in some great organisational boxes, baskets, and cubby holes to keep things in their zones, and how about a label writing machine like a Cricut too. John Lewis has an exclusive partnership with The Home Edit, to buy the same products they use in the show, but you can find cheaper alternatives elsewhere.
