Working from home can be a brilliant motivator for some people, but for others, it's an uncharted world. Lines can quickly become blurred between work and life, which is why it's important to go into it with a plan.
While getting all of the right technology and equipment in place is key, it's equally as important to create a space for you to work in peace. But before we talk about the home decor items that can transform your WFH life, there are other things you should take into account, too.
Tips for working from home
Try to stick to a routine
It can be easy to roll out of bed and on to the sofa, but this will only get you so far. To stay motivated and happy, you'll need to stick to your usual routine or create a brand new one. Shower, get dressed, walk the dog and have breakfast as usual - don't let your whole day become work-focused.
Set some rules for the other people in your home
Whether you split shifts with your partner to help with childcare or agree that you each have your own space, creating a harmonious working environment is key if you're both working from home.
Take regular breaks
Just as you might pop and get a coffee, go for a meeting or head to the water cooler, you should adopt the same practice at home.
Get some fresh air
Exercise and sunlight are key for our mental health, so make sure to get out a few times a day and go for a walk. Walk the dog, call a family member or listen to a podcast - anything to get out of work mode for a short while.
Check in with your colleagues regularly
If you and your colleagues are working from home for the first time, check in with each other just as you would on a normal work day. Keeping up some form of socialisation (even if it's a video call at lunch time) will help you to still feel connected.
Have a dedicated work space
One of the best things you can do to ensure your work and home life don't seamlessly mesh together is to create an 'office' for yourself. If you have an actual office, great, if not, choose a room or space you don't often use in the evenings and set up shop there. Make sure to kit it out to your liking (more on that to follow), invest in a great office chair or desk and close the door at the end of the evening.
Clock off at your usual time
It can be tempting to keep working until you're done, but you might only do that in the office on occasion, right? To maintain a healthy work/life balance, ensure to clock off at your usual time and enjoy your regular evening.
So now you're all set to be a home-working guru, it's time to design your office space. Whether you want it to be as functional and efficient as possible or a calming and motivational space, we've rounded up a selection of our top products to do just that:
