Olivia Sheed
Olivia Sheed is a Tech Writer and Reviewer with What’s The Best. Here she writes reviews, how-to guides, and articles across a range of topics, but primarily technology.
Olivia joined the team in 2024, bringing experience writing for institutions from GamingBible to The Shetland Times.
Her interests align with “anything nerdy.” An avid fan of TTRPGs, board games, miniature painting, and video games. Outside of that, she loves to discuss horror films, campy classics such as those from Hammer Film Productions in the 70s are her favourite for a comfy watch. An avid hiker, she visits the Lake District often, for both walking and wild swimming.

Olivia has a BA in Journalism and an MA in Film from Edinburgh Napier University. She has lived and worked in Edinburgh City for over five years. During that time, she worked as a sound designer on several films and produced her own documentary. The most important thing she learned from the city itself was where to find the best pizza (it’s Civerino's).
She had always had an interest in the way things worked, she tended to take apart her game consoles and laptops to fix them herself since she was old enough to be responsible with a screwdriver. Growing up, she played a lot of indie games such as Firewatch and Life is Strange, which engaged her in the in-depth alternative storytelling and creative practice of gaming.
Once she started her degree in journalism, she was fascinated more and more with technology and data journalism, intrigued by the work of organisations such as Bellingcat. This led her further down the rabbit hole of VPNs and computers until she was eventually building her own.
She has a keen interest in desktop PC components from her time spent disassembling them, headphones from her time studying as a sound designer, and mechanical keyboards from all the time she’s spent writing or gaming on one.
