David Ker
David joined as our Deputy Editor in 2024. He's held a variety of roles within publishing and now supports the What's The Best team in creating advice articles and reviews, as well as writing his own.
A degree in history and a diploma in journalism speak to a generally inquisitive nature. His love of learning continues and now extends to finding out about the best in audio and visual on the market. He's particularly interested in anything which allows him to further pursue his love of music, reading, games, TV and film.
As a child of the 1990s he makes no apologies for holding today's products to the same high standards which brought us Tamagotchis, the Talkboy Deluxe and Tickle Me Elmo.
When not talking about tech he's partial to relaxing with a coffee and a crossword.
David's buying tips for readers include:
"Consider the lifespan of your new purchase, both in terms of warranty and support but also specifications. Tech can advance rapidly – if you're investing in something with elements which are frequently updated, you'll want to pick the option which isn't going to quickly become obsolete."
"Think about the retailer that best suits your needs. Some will offer superior discounts but at the expense of other elements like expert customer assistance and in-person returns. What do you prioritise?"
"If building a collection, invest in an established name. This will mean that there will be more than a few items to choose from, they'll be consistent in their design and they're also likely to be compatible with one another. Speakers from the same brand, for example, can often be linked up via Bluetooth and operated via a single app."
"What's the impact of your spending? Environmental and ethical considerations may well influence your decision, so utilise information from the manufacturer, as well as What's The Best's guidance and that of other independent sources."
